“Hua’er”
“Hua’er” is the popular folk song handed down in Gansu, Qinghai, and Ningxia in northwestern China, and is one of the oral literature in local communities. The song can be divided into two parts. The former part applies analogy and association to introduce the latter, which conveys the main theme and content of the song. Expressed in Linxia Dialect, the lyrical songs serve as an important vehicle for expressing personal feelings, as well as reflecting local features. Based on differences in lyrics and tones, they can be classified as “Hezhou Hua’er” and “Lianhuashan (Lotus Mountain) Hua’er”. In September 2009, Hua’er song was successfully classified in the Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in September 2009.
